TJ KB STS: BA Pentingkan Perpaduan Semua Kaum By Wan Hamidi Hamid 11/1/2001 12:55 pm Thu |
Penterjemah: -KB-
Terjemahan Ringkas Ala Kadar sahaja: Rancangan Umno untuk mengadakan pertemuan berasaskan 'perpaduan melayu'
mungkin tidak menjadi kerana BA mengesyurkan satu pertemuan berasaskan
'perpaduan semua kaum'.
mahu dibicarakan ia mestilah menyentuh soal perpaduan nasional", ujar beliau.
Beliau juga menafikan lapuran kunonnya PAS menerima jemputan UMNO tanpa
syarat.
Husin Ali (PRM). http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/asia/story/0,1870,16342,00.html?
Jan 10, 2001 Opposition plans to thwart Malay talks
They are promoting multi-racial image
By Wan Hamidi Hamid UMNO'S plan to hold a Malay unity summit with the Malay-based opposition
parties is in danger of being scuppered as Barisan Alternatif (BA)
coalition members have a different agenda - projecting themselves as
champions of multi-racial politics. Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, returning from a visit to Myanmar
yesterday, said he was glad that Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) was willing
to sit down and talk despite Parti Keadilan Nasional's decision to snub the
invitation. 'We have no other intention apart from reaching a consensus on Malay unity.
What is important is that I don't want the Malays to be split as it would
be bad for all. 'But the opposition seems to have a different view of what the unity talks
should be about.' PAS president Datuk Fadzil Noor said there were no problems of disunity
among the Malays as most of them had shifted their support to BA.
'The problem is disunity within Umno. So if there is a need to talk, it
must be about national unity.' He also denied press reports that PAS had agreed to discuss with Umno
without any conditions, reiterating that talks about one race would never
benefit the country. On Monday, Keadilan rejected the invitation, saying it did not want to
promote racial politics. BA insiders said the plan was to outflank Umno and project BA as a true
champion of multi-racial politics. In the past, PAS and Keadilan - key
members of the opposition alliance - had been accused of being
Malay-centric in their approach and policies.
'By playing up the multi-racialism card, Umno will be pushed to the corner.
Malay unity will become a problem for Umno as Malaysians would rather
accept national unity,' said a party insider.
Datuk Fadzil and Keadilan president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail had
called on Umno to discuss issues such as abuse of power, mismanagement,
corruption, justice and police brutality.
Parti Rakyat Malaysia president Dr Syed Husin Ali said the meeting between
the Malay leaders was not necessary for the sake of Malay unity.
'It is more appropriate to hold a meeting between BA and Barisan Nasional to discuss the future of the people and the country.' |
