PAS setuju 'Penyatuan Melayu'? By Kapal Berita 7/1/2001 11:35 pm Sun |
sama sekali jika Parlimen memainkan peranannya. Malangnya speaker asyik
menolak semua usul yang berkaitan dengannya. Akhirnya akhbar perdana
memesong segala fakta untuk memberikan kemenangan percuma kepada pihak
yang sudah lama mengimpikannya. Pas agrees to join Malay unity talks
By Jeffri Razali, V. Shankar and Patvinder Singh
KUALA LUMPUR, Sat. _ The Pas central committee today agreed to an
Umno-initiated tripartite talks with Umno and Parti Keadilan Nasional.
In a meeting at its headquarters in Taman Melewar this morning, the
committee felt that the proposed talks should be held at the delegates' level,
and not merely at the presidential level.
Pas president Datuk Fadzil Noor told reporters of the committee's decision at
the party's Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at its headquarters.
The party's committee meeting arose from Umno's proposal that the presidents
of the three parties should hold a "Malay unity" dialogue.
The Umno management and disciplinary committee, chaired by the party's
deputy president, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, made the proposal on
Wednesday. Fadzil said the committee, while agreeing to the proposed talks, felt the scope
of the dialogue should be widened to cover national unity, not just Malay
unity. Asked if Pas would seek the inclusion of MCA and MIC in the talks, Fadzil
said the party did not plan that at the moment.
He said Keadilan had yet to formally decide on the matter, but Dr Wan Azizah
had indicated her agreement to the talks.
Fadzil said the party would send its top leaders to the meeting, and hoped
Umno and Keadilan would do likewise. On the venue, Fadzil said: "We will discuss the place and time for the
meeting later, but Pas is suggesting that it be held at Parliament House and
not at the Putra World Trade Centre or Putrajaya.
"This is because the Parliament building is a symbol of unity in the country."
Fadzil also confirmed he had received a letter on the proposed talks from
Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad a few
days ago. Meanwhile, Keadilan's supreme council is scheduled to meet on Monday to
discuss the proposed Malay unity talks.
An aide to Dr Wan Azizah said today the meeting was expected to discuss the issues in Malay unity and highlight areas of concern that need to be addressed. |
