Mahathir Reaches Out

Asiaweek - Issue cover-dated February 1, 2001

MALAYSIA'S FEISTY PRIME MINISTER Mahathir Mohamad is feeling the heat. Opposition to his leadership from within the Malay community is challenging both his and his party's legitimacy.

Trying to calm the political waters, Mahathir touched on the leadership problem in a speech on January 22. "The current leaders may be rather too old to be at the helm and will have to make way for credible and efficient ones among the younger generation to carry on the Umno struggle and make us become a developed nation by 2020," he said. Mahathir has said that this will be his last term in office. The next general election is due by November 2004.

COMMENT:

"Old" or "Young" is a relative thing. A young clone of you, Mr. Prime Minister means nothing, just as an old man who is reasonable, listens to criticisms, does not hina Muhammad (SAW) and is really really convinced and afraid of the life in the hereafter, does not spread FITNAH at will, we will gladly accept and support him.

But you, Mr PM, are a compulsive liar who have no qualms about LYING FOR ALL THE WORLD TO HEAR. You lied when you said, "Saya ada bukti kukuh!" Why else would you be terrified of having to testify in Court? And again you LIED, when you said that you were NOT subpoenaed by the defence! You hold on dearly to "the ends justify the means".

Mr PM sir, LIARS like you, we owe it to Allah to fight till DEATH! For any Muslim worth his salt, believe (without an iota of a doubt) that we shall be called to testify, "on a Day" when there will be no Eusoff Chins, no Dugong, no Father of All Dogs, no YTL, no Tajuddin Ramli and no Petronas money will be of any use!

And when you say, "This will be my last term", until it actually happens, we will take the stand, "You are LYING (again)"!

EXCERPT:

The suggestion of talks between Umno and the opposition came from an academic. In December, Ahmad Fauzi Basri, the deputy vice-chancellor of the Northern University of Malaysia, proposed that the country's three Malay-based parties sit down to thrash out their differences. "The survival of the Malays in the new millennium is more important than the political interests of the parties put together," Ahmad warned.

COMMENT:

I have no idea who Ahmad Fauzi Basri is. But his suggestion is at best, NAÏVE, and at worst, acting only as a "barua" of Mahafir'aun. I assume he means "POLITICAL DIFFERENCES." Since when did the Malays NOT have any political differences? Were there not UMNO (original), Parti Negara and PAS (PMIP then)since the 40's? Or has the "difference" become relevant only as soon as the majority (Malays) switched to the opposition?

If one is honest enough, (one would ask) could it not then be that there are other factors that cause the (so called) disunity? In any case, why are we still talking Malay nationalism here? Haven't we wondered why Muhammad (SAW) NEVER mentioned Arab nationalism? Why does it seem so difficult for one and all to heed Allah's advice, "…….and in matters you differ, refer it back to Allah and His prophet!" and be thoroughly convinced that once that is achieved, "PERPADUAN" becomes consequential!!

EXCERPT:

Umno is sure the talks are a good idea. "Why not?" says Shahrizat Jalil, an Umno federal minister. "We have to start somewhere and even if we agree on something like, say, keeping politics out of the mosques, we would have achieved something significant."

COMMENT:

My best reaction to the comments (and example) spoken by a Minister in the Mahafir'aun cabinet, is one of absolute disgust. The comments reflect the utter lack of sensitivity to the happenings around. It is fair to assume that this is the "official stand" of the government.

I say INSENSITIVE because "keeping politics out of the mosques" is NOT just any "something like"! Because arguing to "keep politics out of the mosques", is the BASIC and FUNDAMENTAL difference. The Malays "have split" because, the majority now WANT politics to be discussed in mosques! Being Muslims, most Malays are now convinced that politics, business, social, life, death, environment, manners, character, what we eat, how we eat, sleep and even the way we sh**, CAN NOT be separated from Islam!

Let me elaborate. The very essence in Islam is Tauhid/Aqidah. The declaration from the heart, the mouth and manifested by action! The declaration that there is no other "ilah" except Allah, INCLUDE total acceptance and conviction that Allah is all-knowing, all-mighty etc. One therefore has to accept (without question) that ALL laws set by Allah (in the Quraan and the Hadis) are set for ALL times by an ALL-KNOWING! Then comes this Great Leader who declares that these very laws are out of date and "detrimental" to the progress of the Islamic faith! In absolute defiance of Allah!

You say (in all sincerity), "Hey Mr PM. You are way way off tangent mannnn!". Question. Are you being "POLITICAL"? Or just "ISLAMIC"?

EXCERPT:

But in explaining her decision not to attend, Wan Azizah questioned the whole notion of Malay division as the problem. "Malay support has merely shifted to the opposition," she said in a statement. "The main issue today is a crisis of confidence in the leadership and other issues like the misuse of power, corruption, police brutality, weak economic management and a subservient judiciary."

COMMENT:

Sdri Wan Azizah may be wont to say it. But let us be very clear about the WHOLE ISSUE. The whole issue is the treatment of ANWAR IBRAHIM! Because the way he was incarcerated, is the SUM TOTAL of what is wrong with this blessed country of ours.

Irregardless of what the goons in UMNo want to believe!

Until that is undone, LAWAN TETAP LAWAN!
